SILCHAR, March 22 - People of Barak Valley spontaneously joined the 14-hour nationwide��Janata Curfew�,�call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fight against the coronavirus.�Streets of Silchar town wore a deserted look. Barring security persons, only a few countable persons heading towards respective homes were seen after early morning jogging.�
Scenes of gully cricket or tea lovers thronging the half-opened stalls or paan shops were also missing.�
Talking to�The Assam Tribune,�Cachar DC Barnali Sarma, informed that the response to the much-needed �stay at home� call given by the Prime Minister has been spontaneous by people across the district with no untoward incident reported so far.
�We have arranged buses for the passengers who reached via trains at the Silchar Railway station. Also, buses were arranged for the people to reach homes safely from the airport. People in the tea gardens also cooperated in the Janata Curfew and stayed indoors,� Sarma added.
While Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy conveyed his appeal to the people via a video message on social media to stay indoors and fight against the disease, former Congress MP Sushmita Dev also took to Facebook to speak her mind on the need to stay at home unless there is an unavoidable need to step out. She urged the Chief Minister to keep the water supply through the PHE treatment plants across the state uninterrupted.
Reports of similar situation prevailing in border town Karimganj were also received during the day. Deputy Commissioner Anbamuthan MP informed that there was no breach of the appeal for staying indoors as a pre-emptive safety measure from the virus and people have kept themselves inside homes responsibly.
The Deputy Commissioner further informed that the four Nigerian citizens, including a woman who were arrested recently from the Assam-Tripura border at Churaibari and from Badarpur respectively have been kept on 14-day quarantine.
Morigaon Correspondent adds: The 14-hour �Janata Curfew� evoked a total response in Morigaon district today. All shops and business establishments remained closed during the period. Normal life came to a grinding�halt as all vehicular traffic remained closed on the National Highway-37. The Jagiroad railway station wore a deserted look due to cancellation of major trains. The famous�Bishnu Mandir at Dharamtul and Shiva temple at Deosal near Jagiroad will be closed for the visitors for two weeks.
Meanwhile, the Morigaon district administration has taken a number of measures against coronavirus�in all the hospitals to face any eventuality. A series of awareness programmes was also carried out by the members of District Media Club, Morigaon in several places.
Gossaigaon ANN Service adds: The people of the entire Gossaigaon observed �Janata Curfew� following an appeal from the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to fight against coronavirus. All school and colleges were completely closed. The major streets of the subdivision wore a deserted look as the people remained confined to their homes.
