TEZPUR, Nov 4 - A nearly two-km-long stretch of road near the Kolakuchi bridge of Kolakuchi-Sagaoliahot Tol road connecting NH-15 via Khelmati and Bandarmari centres has been left unrepaired by the PWD, creating acute resentment among the people of the greater area. Though a lion�s portion of the most deplorable road was repaired a couple of months back bowing to mounting pressure from the media, the department concerned has left the aforementioned stretch unrepaired. This stretch of the road forms the border between Dhekiajuli and Barchala LACs. However, the public representatives of both the LACs do not want to take the responsibility of this portion of the road leading to it lying neglected. Due to the lack of timely repairs, ditch-sized potholes have got created, posing risk to the commuters. People of the area have urged the MLAs of both the LACs to take up the matter seriously and positively, as they are responsible for the same as public representatives.
When contacted, the Assistant Executive Engineer, Biswajyoti Borah, who monitors the work-site in the area, mentioned that due to shortage of funds, this portion of the road has remained half done. �We are planning to submit a proposal for the reconstruction of this portion in the next phase so that it can be linked properly with the already done portion,� he stated.
Meanwhile, the most deplorable state of the Kolakuchi bridge over the Gabharau river has compounded the woe of the commuters. However, responding to the long-pending demand of a new bridge in the area, the government sanctioned a big budget and allotted the work to a particular construction company, but the work is yet to start. As the condition of the bridge is deteriorating day by day, the plying of heavy vehicles, particularly passenger buses has been hit. Locals and the people who regularly use this route have urged the government and the agencies concerned to do the needful for an early solution to the problem.
On the other hand, it has been alleged though some of the bad roads were repaired in the area, due to the poor quality of work, they have already started wearing off. The conscious sections of the people have urged the authorities to look into the work done and rectify the faults.
