DHUBRI, May 6 - Repolling was conducted at five polling stations under Dhubri Parliamentary constituency on Monday, with 85.85% voters turning out to cast their franchise again.
The Returning Officer of Dhubri HPC, Anant Lal Gyani said that repolling had to be conducted as the EC had found that the voting procedure was not conducted as per norms during the third phase of 2019 general elections on April 23. He also informed that, under Golokganj LAC, re-polling will be held at 232 Naba Bharat Pathshala High School where it was found that the presiding officer not only did not delete the mock poll results but tried to manipulate the overall polling numbers on the day of the election on April 23. In this polling station 77.5% electors had turned out to vote. In this regard we are sending a suspension letter to the presiding officer, said Gyani.
The voting of 13-743 Bani Bidya Mandir LP School (right) was cancelled as the presiding officer was found to allow voters to cast their franchise by showing only the voters slip. It was informed that the EIC has directed the officials to take disciplinary action against them. However, on Monday, the voters under this polling station showed equal enthusiasm and 87 per cent electors cast their franchise.
The votes of 22-Katolipara ME Madrassa and 219-445 No Lawkhowa LP School under 22 South Salmara LAC and at 167 Boushkata ME Madrassa (Left) under 21 Mankachar LAC, were cancelled because in all these polling booths the polling official on April 23 forgot to delete the results of the mock polls. On Monday 87.58 per cent, 85.71 per cent and 91.46 per cent voters respectively cast their votes till the filing of this report.
