GAURIPUR, May 29 - A section of miscreants around Agomani circle in Dhubri district have been trying to disturb communal harmony among all sections of people by placing beef-steaks in front of some temples.

Over and above this, more than 200 inhabitants of Tufanganj sub-division of North Bengal fled from their villages as they were threatened by activists of some political parties and they reportedly took shelter at Kherbari Part-II village under Golakganj Police Station.

Considering the gravity of the situation, the Dhubri district administration convened a peace meeting on the premises of Agomani HS School on May 27 last.

The meet was chaired by Nazrul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri district. Palash Pratim Borah, Circle Officer of Agomani circle explained the purpose of the meeting. The meet was attended by Lower Assam DIG Abhijit Borah, SP Diganta Borah, police officers from Golakganj, Agomani, Halakura Chagalia and secretaries of the Village Defence Party, besides members of the local public.

DIG Borah appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony among all sections of people irrespective of caste and creed, and directed the police and the VDPs to be cautious while dealing with any problem. He advised the people not to believe in false news. The district administration managed to send the people to their respective villages with the active support of their Coach Behar counterpart.
