SHILLONG, Jan 20 - Meghalaya based People�s Democratic Front (PDF) has informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi of its stiff opposition to the Centre�s move to implement the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016.
In a memorandum sent to the Prime Minister on Saturday, PDF president, Ivanlumlang Marbaniang said, �The party, which was formed to ensure safety and security of the indigenous people of Meghalaya, has unanimously decided to oppose the implementation of this Bill.�
Stating that the Bill is threatening the unique identity of the tribal people of the State, Marbaniang said it will cause serious change in the population dynamics of the State which will ultimately lead to regressive economic scenario in the State.
He also said the Bill, if passed, will give rise to ethnic clashes which will disrupt the peace and harmony in the State.
