Pay hike for panchayat functionaries

GUWAHATI, Dec 10 � The monthly salary of the panchayat functionaries has been raised by five times. Similarly the remuneration of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Act scheme contractual employees has also been hiked by the State Cabinet at its meeting yesterday, said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi here today while addressing a press conference.

Each of the Zilla Parishad presidents will now on get Rs 10,000 per month, against the existing Rs 2,000. A Zilla Parishad vice president will now on get Rs 7,500 per month against the Rs 1,500 he/she is getting at present. Each of the members of the Zilla Parishad will now on get Rs 3,500 per month, against the Rs 700 he/ she is getting.

A president of the Anchalik Panchayat will now on get Rs 7,500 per month against the Rs 1,500. A vice president of the Anchalik Panchayat will now on get Rs 5,000, against the Rs 1,000 he or she is getting at present.

A member of the Anchalik Panchayat will now on get Rs 2,500, against the Rs 500 he or she is getting at present.

A Gaon Panchayat president will now on get Rs 5,000 against the Rs 1,000 he or she is getting now. Similarly the salary of the Gaon Panchayat vice president has been raised to Rs 3,000 per head against the present Rs 600. The members of the Gaon Panchayat will now on get Rs 1,500 per head against the present Rs 300.

In all, 26,844 people engaged in the panchayats will be covered under this initiative, said the Chief Minister.
