Patsako to be made cultural centre

GUWAHATI, Dec 16 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday announced a financial grant of Rs 50 lakh for developing the Patsako area in Sivasagar district as a cultural centre. The Chief Minister was addressing the valedictory function of the golden jubilee celebration of the Mahan-Deodhai-Bailung Sanmilan in the district.

An official press release here said that the Chief Minister in his address, laid stress on the development and spread of the rich Tai art and culture. He lauded the role played by the Tai scholars towards the Tai people as remarkable. Moreover, he assured steps to develop the Patsako area as a centre of Tai culture and underscored the need to develop an archive for preservation of the Tai books scattered in the area.

The Chief Minister observed that the Green Sivasagar Mission, undertaken for conservation of nature, environment and historical monuments of the district, is a timely one.

The session, presided over by the Mahan-Deodhai-Bailung Sanmilan, Assam president Monoranjan Phukan, was inaugurated by former State Information Commissioner Dr Birendra Kumar Gohain.

The Chief Minister also launched the website of the Green Sivasagar Mission and released a newsletter. He earlier inaugurated the Green Sivasagar Tea Estate Data Centre that has been developed to generate awareness among the tea garden communities.
