IMPHAL, Aug 13 - Patriots� Day was observed across Manipur on Thursday to commemorate the 1891 Anglo-Manipuri War in which scores of people sacrificed their lives to safeguard the independence of the land.

State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh along with his Council of Ministers, MLAs and Speaker paid floral tributes to the departed souls at the historic Hicham Yaicham Pat at Moirangkhom and Thangal General Temple complex at Palace Compound here this morning. Personnel of the Manipur Rifles conducted a gun salute to the departed souls.

Later, a function was held at the Bir Tikendrajit Park in the heart of Imphal town after laying of wreath to the martyrs at Kangla Uttra inside the historic Kangla Fort.
