Pathsala youth embarks on anti-drugs walkathon

By ANN Service

PATACHARKUCHI, Dec 13 - For Khanin Roy, an enthusiastic youth of Pathsala, the word impossible probably does not exist in his dictionary. He has been taking unique steps one after the other during the last few years in order to generate awareness among the people against drugs addiction and depression, i.e., dreaming of a future society which is almost free from the ravages of drugs and drugs-induced depression.

This time he has embarked on a 900-km walkathon from Dhubri to Sadiya along the Arunachal Pradesh border within a 21-day period in an effort to generate public awareness about the perils associated with drugs abuse. Having begun his solo journey on December 7, Khanin told mediapersons that drugs addiction is a serious problem, often accompanied by depression. We may not be able to have a society which is 100 percent free from both the health problems, but we can at least try to minimise their intensity, he said.

Even an affluent person may be a drugs addict and then suffer from depression, he told the mediapersons.

This is Khanins sixth attempt to create awareness on some socially relevant topic. In 2016, he swam across the Brahmaputra in a similar initiative. He also walked to Guwahati earlier in another mission.

Khanin Roy hails from Pathsala town in Bajali sub-divison, now declared as Bajali district. The unique endeavour is being undertaken under the aegis of an organisation named Brain and Figure of Pathsala.
