Passport Seva Kendra inaugurated in Dibrugarh

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Feb 28 - A Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) was inaugurated today at Graham Bazar Post Office complex here today. The POPSK is the third in the state, with Silchar and Mangaldai.

The Passport Seva Kendra office was inaugurated by Dibrugarh MP Rameshwar Teli in presence of local MLAs of the district, Regional Passport Officer of the Guwahati office, Lobsang Tsering and Post Master General, Dibrugarh, Akashdeep Chakravorty.

The normal passport applications will be processed online at the Passport Seva Kendra here. Fifty appointments per day will be entertained, the official added. However, diplomatic, official and tatkal passports will not be processed here, as of now. For that, people will have to go to Guwahati. A similar POPSK will soon be made operational at Tinsukia, it is learnt. The Dibrugarh Nagarik Sangha, Dibrugarh Press Club and civil groups have been demanding a passport facilitation centre . The demand has been partially met with todays inauguration, though the facility here is literally half a passport office only. Citizens here said they would appreciate if the MPs and MLAs of the area work for a full-fledged passport office.
