Passenger train services restored

GUWAHATI, July 14 - After a gap of almost two months, Barak Valley, Tripura and Mizoram have been reconnected with the rest of the country by the railway system with restoration of passenger train services in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section.

NFR PRFO Nripen Bhattacharya said that in view of fitness of track between Mahur and Migrendisa for running of passenger services, the railways has decided to resume running of passenger trains in the section starting from yesterday.

It may be mentioned here that running of goods trains had been resumed in the section on July 7.

Train services in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section was suspended from May 16 due to landslide and heavy rainfall in different places of the section.

With the latest decision, NFR has decided that the Train no. 55615 Guwahati-Silchar Fast Passenger and the Train no. 55616 Silchar-Guwahati Fast Passenger will run on their scheduled path and time.

Similarly, services of the Train no. 25657/25658 Sealdah-Silchar-Sealdah Kanchanjanga Express have also been restarted as per the old schedule.

In the past two months, commuters to and from Barak Valley, Tripura and Mizoram were badly affected by disruption of passenger train services in the Lumding-Badarpur section and many of them had complained about having to fork out huge sums for passenger fares.

Students from the Brahmaputra Valley and other States, who were seeking admission at NIT Silchar, also suffered on this account.
