JORABAT, Dec 16 - Coming down heavily on State BJP MP RP Sharma for his statement that the government has planned to give citizenship to 10 lakh Hindu Bangladeshis, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) said any such move of the government would not be accepted at any cost by the students body.
Sharma further stated that AASU in particular and other organisations in general in Assam would accept this move of the government as the BJP has good coordination with the influential students body.
Addressing a press conference held today at Sonapur, AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath said AASU would not tolerate any such move of the government and termed BJP MP RP Sharma a dalal and warned that he must stop his dalali.
AASU will stage a massive protest against the statement made by the BJP MP as no indigenous organisations in the State will accept the governments plan to give citizenship to 10 lakh illegal Hindu Bangladeshis who came here after 1971, he warned.
Commenting on the ongoing NRC update, he said no names of illegal immigrants, who were settled in Assam after 1971, should be included in the NRC list, no matter whether they are Hindus or Bangladeshis.
We have also requested all the district authorities to take steps to ensure that no illegal immigrants names be included in the NRC list, Nath said.
Focusing on the vital issue of the Brahmaputras water getting polluted, he questioned the Central governments silence on this issue.
Nath also stressed the need for speedy investigation into the Jogdal mass murder case. It has been 8 years, but the main culprits are yet to be arrested, he said.
