Parties, individual candidates gear up for Assembly polls in Dhubri district

Dhubri, March 12: Although the elections in Dhubri district will be conducted on 3rd phase, political activities in all the 5 constituencies of the district are at its peak.

AIUDF and the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) have already declared their candidates for the seats in the ensuing polls, while Congress and the BJP are yet to declare their candidates in the seats they will contest in the District.

While the party workers of almost all the all the parties are not happy about the seats leaving for the alliance parties. Congressmen have been demanding that the party should not have left the Bilasipara East, Dhubri as well as Gauripur constituencies to their alliance party, AIUDF. While the BJP’s alliance AGP is still eyeing on the Dhubri seat.

Congress party members stated that the senior leaders of the party should not have left the constituencies to the alliance where AIUDF is their main opposition. They demand at least a friendly contest in these constituencies; will be beneficial for the party.

However, those parties who have declared their candidates are confident about their win in the ensuing elections. Talking to this correspondent, Gauripur MLA Nizanur Rahman who is again a candidate in the ensuing elections stated, “I see no opposition till now, who will stand against me in the ensuing elections. People from all the community as well as from all the sections are with me and they want me to be their representative again”.

Speaking on the same line, Dhubri MLA and the candidate for the constituency, Nazrul Hoque said, “If people are happy with my works and my works has brought positive changes in the life of people living in the villages as well in the urban areas of the constituency, I will be elected again as the MLA of Dhubri”.

All set to give him a tough contest Azad Ali Sk, Dhubri candidate for AJP stated “people want to come out from the communal politics of AIUDF and BJP and want development due to which AJP will be a gainer”.

Meanwhile, the BJP is also hoping that the candidates from the party will be given most of the seats of the district. Moreover from the saffron party many aspiring candidates have expressed their willingness to contest in the election under the banner of the party which has succeeded in making thousands of new members in recent times.

“Who so ever is given the ticket from the alliance, all the party workers of the BJP will work towards sending them to Dispur”, said Baghirath Ojha, senior BJP leader.
