Parliamentary Committee on Sikkim visit

GANGTOK, July 29 � The eight member Parliamentary Committee on Estimates, which is on a three day visit here from July 27, convened a meeting in the State capital yesterday.

They held a discussion with the representatives of Ministry of Tourism and the officials of the State Government on the subject of Tourism with particular reference to eco-tourism and the effects of tourism in the fragile ecology of the Himalayan region.

A discussion was also held with the representatives of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and State Government on the power generation, demand and supply with special reference to Micro hydro power projects in Sikkim.

A discussion was also held with officials of Civil Aviation Ministry for development of Greenfield Airports in the North Eastern States including Sikkim. The meeting was attended by PD Rai, MP Lok Sabha, officials of the Ministry of Tourism and State Government departments.
