Paresh ridicules Rajnath claim

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 30 The commander-in-chief of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), Paresh Baruah on Wednesday reacted to the statement of the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the issue of talks and asserted that the outfit was always in favour of meaningful and honourable talks.

The Union Home Minister on Tuesday had said that Baruah was not in favour of talks. But the ULFA(I) leader said that the Government of India never wanted honourable talks. The government only wanted the militant outfits to hold talks as per its conditions, he alleged. He also said that the government was not keen on holding talks on the genuine demands of the people of Assam.

Baruah also alleged that instead of trying to solve the conflicts through honourable talks, the government was trying different means to eliminate him. Several such attempts were made in the past, he said.
