Papers of GMDA deals intact: Himanta

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 24 Guwahati Development Department (GDD) Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that copies of all the critical documents pertaining to different deals of the Guwahati Metropolitan Develop-ment Department with various agencies are available in origin.

Sarma, while confirming that seven copies of agreements have been apparently stolen from the GMDA office, divulged that the copies of all the paperwork are available with the Government of Assam and the Registrar office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Anyone can file RTI and get the copies to authenticate my statement, the GDD Minister told mediapersons.

A section of the media had reported large-scale financial anomalies in the deals of the GMDA. The deals also included those related to works taken up for the 33rd National Games.

The agreements included those related to deal with Japan Bank (water supply), JNNURM and installation of traffic signals in the capital city.

I was apprehensive that something like this could take place in either health department or GDD before elections, which is why I had asked the officials to make three sets of copies of all the critical documents, Sarma stated.

It may be mentioned that the theft of the GMDA files had raked up a controversy with several political parties demanding a probe.
