By Correspondent

DIPHU, June 18 In an unexpected jolt to the Opposition camp in Karbi Anglong, as many as 192 active supporters and workers of Peoples Alliance for Peace Agreement (PAPA) quit their parent party and joined Congress on June 16.

The renegade supporters and workers of PAPA formally joined Congress at the Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KADCC) office on Saturday in presence of Biren Sing Engti, MP, Parliamentary Secretaries of Assam Government Bidaysing Engleng, Dr Mansing Rongpi, Sum Ronghang, president, KADCC and Joyram Engleng, CEM, KAAC.

It is worth mentioning that about 50 different political and non-political organisations got united last couple of years with view to start democratic movement to pressurize the government in order to fulfil the long-standing demand of the United People Democratic Solidarity (UPDS).

This is seen as a result of the poor show by the PAPA candidates in the last MAC elections.

It may be mentioned here that the political mileage of the ruling Congress party can be described as a major blow to the main Opposition party in the hill district. On this occasion KAAC EMs Tuli Ram Ronghang, Bhubon Chandra Terang, Bidya Sing Rongpi, Mongal Sing Timung, D Uphing Maslai, Alice Entipi, Pradip Difusa, Lonki Timung, Jeevan Pathak, Ashok Teron, and Premola Beypi were also present.
