Panel to probe alleged rape of woman doctor

By CORRESPONDENT

ITANAGAR, Oct 16 - The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) has constituted an ad hoc enquiry committee to probe the alleged rape of a woman doctor by the MLA of the Bameng Assembly Constituency in a hotel here.

The APSCW has also sought a detailed status report in the alleged rape case from the Itanagar Womens Police Station and urged the police to conduct a fair and proper investigation into the case.

The doctor had lodged an FIR at the womens police station here recently, alleging that she was raped by the MLA in a hotel where she had gone to discuss matters relating to a public health centre. She also accused the legislator of threatening to kill her if she informed anyone about the incident.

The MLA, however, filed a counter complaint with the police and dismissed the woman doctors allegation, claiming that it was politically motivated to tarnish his image in society.

Following the woman doctors complaint, a case was registered at the Itanagar Womens Police Station under Sections 376(1)/354/506 of the IPC.

The womens commission, meanwhile, has requested all sections of society to cooperate with the police for a proper investigation into the case.
