Panel to form strategy to bring back people stranded outside State

GUWAHATI, April 30 - The State-Level Empowered Committee on COVID-19 today constituted a panel to formulate a standard operating procedure (SoP) for bringing back the migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and others who remain stranded at different places amid the lockdown.

The committee will be headed by Additional DGP (Law and Order) GP Singh and include ADGP (Security) Harmeet Singh, CEO of the ASDMA MS Manivannan, MD of the ASTC AP Tiwari, MD of the NHM Laxmanan S and Commissioner of the transport department Adil Khan as its members.

GP Singh will be the nodal officer of the entire exercise to bring back the stranded people from other states to Assam. For the same purpose, Harmeet Singh has been entrusted to function as the alternate nodal officer.

To bring back the stranded people, the ASTC will arrange buses and NHM will bear the expenditure.

The meeting that was held today, also decided that all shops of the State dealing in textbooks will be allowed to remain open from Monday to Saturday between 10 am and 5 pm.
