Panel on milk survey

GUWAHATI, Nov 5 - Following a directive by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), New Delhi, a State-level Steering Committee for monitoring and evaluation of National Milk Survey (MMQS) in Assam has been constituted under the chairmanship of Commissioner of Food, Barnali Deka, yesterday.

The first meeting of the committee was held at the office chamber of the Food Safety Commissioner.

The meeting was attended by Dr R Bhutan, Director, Animal & Veterinary Dept., Director of Dairy Development, Anupam Gogoi, Food Analyst, Assam, and representatives of West Assam Milk Producers Cooperative Union Ltd.

As per instruction of FSSAI, the meeting decided to immediately conduct a survey of milk sold within Guwahati, including all forms of milk products, business operators, whole-sellers, retailers and producers of Guwahati.

�Milk samples will be collected by Food Safety officers in collaboration with the other member organizations of the steering committees. Samiran Baruah, FSO, Kamrup, will be the Nodal Officer for this survey. The notified labs for analysis of milk in this survey are the State Public Health Lab and the Lab of West Assam Milk Producers Cooperative Union Ltd. This survey will definitely throw some light into the long-standing complaints regarding the milk of Guwahati,� an official release said.

The survey will start within this month. The target will be to collect more than 1,500 samples of milk sold in Guwahati.
