Panel formed to monitor UPDS pact implementation

NEW DELHI, May 16 � A 16-member monitoring committee has been set up to monitor implementation of the pact signed with the UPDS.

The decision to constitute the tripartite committee was taken at a meeting with the Karbi militant group on Tuesday.

The review committee includes officials of the Home Ministry, the Assam Government, besides UPDS.

The tripartite agreement between the government and UPDS was signed on November 25 last.�A monitoring committee is to be formed to review the implementation every six months according to the clause 10.1 of the MoS, member of Autonomous Council KAAC and representative of UPDS Kang Jang Terang told newsmen.

It has been agreed that a tripartite Committee headed by Joint Secretary (North East) in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) would be formed. The committee is proposed to include officials drawn from various Central Ministries, including Ministry DoNER, HRD, Health and Family

Welfare, Culture, Environment and Forest, Planning Commission, besides the Assam Government.

The UPDS would be represented by Surjya Rongphar and Kang Jang Terang in the monitoring committee.�All the inter-Ministry departments, which are related to the MoS, have been included in the monitoring committee.
