Pandu twin murder case cracked

By STAFF Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 25 Police today confirmed the involvement of Sujata Dey (22) behind the twin murder of her husband and mother-in-law on May 23 in Pandu area.

Sujata executed the plan with the help of Anupam Das (22), with whom she was having an affair for the last four years.

Both Sujata and Anupam have been arrested by the police and the duo is said to have confessed to the crime. Anupam works with Catch, a company which deals in spice and salts.

Both Guatam Dey and his mother Purnima Dey were strangulated to death on May 23. This is not the first time that murder of such nature has been reported in Guwahati. In the span of last six months or so, three heinous cases of murder with direct involvement of a family member of the victim have been cracked by the Police.

While a few weeks back, police arrested Malabika Kalita for scripting the murder plot of her mother Alaka Rani Kalita over property issue in Jyotinagar area, another incident of matricide was exposed around six months back when police arrested Ankit Saikia, a BA first year student of SB Deorah College here, on charges of killing his mother Puja Saikia, 38, for the want of money.

On the Pandu twin-murder, Additional SP (Crime) Amitabh Sinha told reporters that Sujata, who was married to Gautam Dey(40) six years back, was not happy in her married life and even wanted a divorce, which, however, was not endorsed by her family.

There were apparently three to four persons who entered Deys house on that day. The door was opened for the miscreants by Sujata herself and after making the family members unconscious, the miscreants got away with Rs 2.5 lakh and some ornaments, although the contract was fixed for Rs 1.5 lakh, Sinha said, adding that the plan was being made since the last one and half months. We are on the lookout for other suspects, Sinha said.

Sinha added that it was still not clear whether Anupam himself entered the house on that day or not.
