Panchayat Minister reviews schemes in Karimganj

NILAMBAZAR, June 17 - The State Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley has asked senior officials of the department to bring in transparency while executing developmental works.

While reviewing the ongoing schemes here yesterday, the Minister said that schemes meant for the poor people should be executed properly so that they can reap the benefits. In this context, he asserted that if any one is found to be involved in corruption, the State government will not hesitate to take stern action. Citing an example, he said that nine GP secretaries and BDOs have already been suspended for their involvement in corruption.

The Minister was accompanied by a group of senior officials of Panchayat and Rural development department headed by Principal Secretary, Dr J B Ekka and Commissioner Hemen Das and reviewed the progress of various schemes like MGNREGA, PMAY-G, NSAP, 14th Finance Commission and DAY NRLM etc. in the presence DC, Karimganj Ambamuthan MP and Panchayat officials of Karimganj. Later, the Minister also informed that as per direction of the government all the migrant workers will be employed in the panchayat, after completion of their quarantine period.

Staff Correspondent adds from Silchar: Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development, Naba Kumar Doley has reiterated the Government�s stance to provide jobs to the migrant labourers returning to home districts owing to COVID-19 and willing to work.

Addressing a review meeting of his department in Karimganj district on Tuesday, Doley said, � the Government is absolutely clear in its stance to provide jobs to the migrant labourers who are willing to work and schemes like the MGNREGA will enroll the willing workforce ensuring proper wages as well.� Special attention is being given to see that people wear face masks, maintain social distancing and wash hands with sanitizers frequently, the minister added.

According to a release issued by the Karimganj DIPR, as many as 1304 such migrant labourers have been enlisted and the Minister had given clear instructions to the officials to allot jibs form those willing to work. The release also stated that so far 10,245 homes have been constructed across the district under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (Grameen). The Minister, in the review meet has also instructed to integrate bankers with SHG at the block levels in the district.
