Panchayat member arrested over anomalies in distributing Rs 1,000 govt aid

JORHAT, June 14: Police arrested Dipali Baruah of the Congress party, the Ward member of 49 Madhya Namani Chararaibahi Gaon Panchayat under Rowriah Police Outpost, on charges of committing anomalies in distributing Rs 1,000 Government financial assistance each to poor families during the lockdown.

A police source said that Baruah has been arrested under Section 420 of IPC in the Jorhat Police Station case number 747/2020.

Baruah, however, has refuted the charges brought against her and termed the action as a result of political conspiracy to target her.

She told newspersons that she gave Rs 1,000 each to her two sons, who were daily-wage earners and resided separately and claimed of clarifying from panchayat office about the eligibility of her sons as beneficiaries of the Government aid.
