Pan-India scribes� interface on North East

GUWAHATI, March 17 � The University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), organised an interactive session among journalists from different parts of India on March 15.

During the session titled �Journalists� interface: Northeast versus rest of India,� the participants discussed different aspects of the North East which get reflected in the dailies in metro cities.

Over 250 journalists from various parts of the country, who were in the city to participate in the 123rd Working Committee Meeting of Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) hosted by the Assam Union of Working Journalists, joined in the discussion.

Another 50 journalists from different parts of Assam and North East also took part in the session. M Haque, Chancellor of USTM, welcomed the guests. The interactive session witnessed discussion of various relevant issues pertaining to the region among the visiting journalists where the issue of �Negligence in the National Media about North East� was highlighted.

Moreover, issues like insurgency, illegal immigration and border conflict were also discussed. The IFWJ delegates, led by its national president K Vikram Rao and secretary general Parmanand Pandey, assured that they would go back to their respective working places with the new understandings of this region. The students of USTM and Regional Institute of Science & Technology presented a cultural programme on the occasion.
