IMPHAL, Feb 20 - Peoples Alliance of Manipur (PAM) on Tuesday sad that BJP national president Amit Shahs recent statement in Assams Lakhimpur on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) was an insult to the indigenous people of North East.
Shah had categorically stated that BJP would bring back CAB if the party retains power after the Lok Sabha election expected to be held in April-May next.
Speaking at a press conference at Manipur Press Club here, PAM media coordinator Md Ravi Khan said that the recent statement of Shah was a total contradiction to the stand of the BJP leaders in the State.
Seeking a clear-cut stand of the BJP on whether the Bill is to be brought back in its present form or a modified form incorporating the demand of the people of the North East, Khan asked, Was Amit Shah inviting a fresh uproar in the North East? He insisted that the State BJP leaders including Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh clarify the matter.
Asking the reason behind State BJP leaders remaining silent, he said that whether they choose to remain silent after having knowledge of the firm stand of the party at the national level.
A resolution opposing the CAB must be passed by the State Assembly during its ensuing Budget session due to commence from tomorrow, he demanded.
