SHILLONG, March 30 - Shillong MP Vincent Pala released Rs 1 crore from his MP Local Area Development Scheme for urgent procurement of ventilators, masks and other medical equipment required by health officials.

The amount was released to the East Khasi Hills district administration with the recommendation that any item that the Director of Health Services feels necessary for procurement could be done through the released fund.

Pala in his letter said that the required items may be procured within 45 days after proper scrutiny. The MP said that he may be kept informed on the work implementation.

On the other hand, the State Government has informed that it is coordinating with farmers in the rural areas to get their produce to the market through an initiative called 1917iTEAMS.

The team has been working closely with the deputy commissioners of different districts of the State to ensure that vegetables and fruits are made available to the public.

Farm produce from Laitjem and Mawkriah from East Khasi Hills were procured and distributed across different localities of Shillong under the supervision of Rangbah Shnongs.

The team has been selling these vegetables and fruits in different localities of the State in vehicles. However, there has been a spike in the cost of these items.

The 1917iTEAMS is an initiative of the Government of Meghalaya that is working in the current crisis situation by procuring farm produce from the farmers and making it available in different parts of the State.

Meanwhile, the Education Department has notified today that educational institutions would remain closed till April 15.
