Pagladia tourism centre inaugurated

NALBARI, Nov 21 - Pagladia Resort, which is a new agro-based tourism centre, was inaugurated on the bank of the Pagladia river at Moiradanga village in Nalbari district yesterday.

The centre was inaugurated by Ashok Sarma, MLA of Nalbari Legislative Assembly Constituency at a function held in the campus of Sankardev Jaivik Krishi Paam.

Inaugurating the centre, MLA Sarma speculated that the unique concept of agro-based tourism by five Nalbari youths will in all probability add a new dimension to the prospect of tourism in the district.

He expressed optimism that the new tourist spot developed on the basis of the Pagladia river would attract tourists from other parts of the state as well.

Addressing the inaugural meeting, the chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation Jayanta Malla Baruah said that the Tourism Department has emphasised on the concept of promoting agro-based eco-tourism.

He further added that the state had tremendous scope to develop agro-based tourism by fine-tuning it with river tourism.

Speaking in the meeting, Nalbari Deputy Commissioner Purabi Konwar hoped that the novel effort by the five local youths would motivate others to emulate the example in the near future and thereby create self-employment avenues.

The inaugural meeting was presided over by Mouzadar Bibhu Kingkar Goswami and was addressed among others by Dr Mridul Deka, programme coordinator of Nalbari KVK, Devajyoti Biswas, DGM of NABARD, Dhrubajyoti Sarma, president of Nalbari Zilla Sahitya Sabha respectively.
