Padmashree for HP Barooah, Ghanakanta Bora

NEW DELHI, Jan 25 � Noted tea planter Hemen--dra Prasad Barooah and Ghanakanta Bora Borbayan have been awarded Padma-shree, while MC Mary Kom is the lone recipient of Padma Bhushan from the Northeast.

The highly prestigious national awards were announced on the eve of the Republic Day. This year there are 108 Padma awardees, including four Padma Bibhushan, 24 Padma Bhushan and 80 Padmashrees.

Ghanakanta Bora Bor-bayan is one of the most eminent exponents of Sattriya dance. He is also a renowned instrumentalist, choreographer and author. He is also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi award in 2001.

Hemendra Prasad Barooah is one the prominent tea planters of the State. A former chairman of the Indian Tea Association (ITA), Barooah has played an important role in motivating local entrepreneurs. He has also immensely contributed to the socio-cultural and literary spheres of the State.
