Padmabati Boro conferred 2nd Best Farmer Award

NALBARI, March 17 - A woman farmer from Chengnoi village in Nalbari district named Padmabati Boro secured the 2nd Best Farmer Award organised by Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), Delhi in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Agriculture.

Boro got this award from among five finalists. Boro was nominated for the award by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nalbari under Assam Agricultural University in response to the invitation called by the DDK, New Delhi through Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in July, 2018.

Video programmes and documentaries of her activities on the field of sericulture, animal husbandry and poultry, horticulture and allied ones were accomplished in collaboration with DDK Guwahati. Out of the total nominations, 110 were shortlisted for the first reality show that was conducted in Delhi. The final evaluation was done on March 15 in New Delhi where Padmabati Boro achieved second position next to the farmers nominated by KVK, Baramati in Maharashtra.

The third position was conferred on a woman farmer from Manipur. Two women farmers from the North East secured the national award in the agri sector. They are considered a pride of the nation and will remain as the source of encouragement for all the farmers of the region.

It is an encouraging moment for all of us in the region and particularly for Assam and Manipur and time to prove our potential at the national level. Their success will certainly contribute energy for attaining the goals in doubling farmers income targeted to be achieved within 2022.
