Pact will end gun culture, says Mohilary

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Jan 30 - Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary today said the Bodo peace agreement has put an end to the gun culture in our society, while demanding that cases pending against the NDFB militants, who have joined mainstream, should be withdrawn.

Speaking at the arms laying ceremony here, Mohilary said there is apprehension among the surrendered militants relating to the pending cases registered against them.

Now that the accord has been signed, the cases will have to be disposed of. We will ask the Centre to dispose the cases against the NDFB leaders and militants in the same manner the cases against the BLT ultras were withdrawn, he said.

Some cases may take time, but eventually all the cases will have to be withdrawn. Peace accord and cases against the militants cannot go hand in hand, he said.

We thought that the BTC area would be extended, which did not happen. However, I am happy that the accord has finally become a reality, Mohilary said. He also stated that no one, be it Adivasis or Bengalis, need not fear about anything and everyone will have to work together.
