Pabindra Sarma, Kunjabala Devi awards announced

GUWAHATI, Oct 16 � The Pabindra Nath Sarma Memorial Award for investigative reporting on human rights and Kunjabala Devi Memorial Award for investigative reporting on woman issues for the year 2013 have been awarded to Utpal Kumar Bhagawati of Guwahati and Gagan Kumar Nath of Sipajhar (Darrang) respectively.

Bhagawati is a staff reporter with Dainik Janambhumi, while Nath is a correspondent with Asomiya Khabar.

The awards, given in the name of Late Pabindra Nath Sarma, freedom fighter and advocate, and his wife, each carry a cash amount of Rs 15,000 and a citation each. The awards will be given away at a function to be held at Bishnu-Nirmala auditorium at Latashil, Uzanbazar, on October 19 where eminent writer and journalist of Arunachal Pradesh Mamang Dai will be the chief guest.

Senior advocate of the Gauhati High Court, Arup Borbora would be the guest of honour of the function, which would be presided over by former editor of Dainik Asam, DN Chakravartty.
