Pabindra Deka quits AGP

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 15 - Senior Asom Gana Parishad leader and Patacharkuchi MLA Pabindra Deka today resigned from the party over his rift with party leadership over the issue of Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

The AGP, on the other hand, termed his resignation as an obvious example of sheer opportunism, which has nothing to do with any greater cause.

Deka, a founding member of the AGP, is likely to join the Assam Jatiya Parishad.

Deka said that because of his strong opposition to the controversial CAA, he was cornered by the party leadership. He said when the AGP was silent over the issue of CAB and its Rajya Sabha MP Birendra Prasad Baishya voted in favour of the bill, he was the only person from the party who publicly opposed it.

Alleging that Deka is expert in doing politics of opportunism in the garb of regionalism, the AGP said that earlier also he had left the party and fought election as a Congress candidate.

Its ridiculous how he projects himself as a truthful and honest politician. Whereas in reality, he neither cares about the issues and grievances of the people of his constituency nor did he take any major responsibility as a senior party leader. The people of Patacharkuchi very well understand the traits of his personality, AGP general secretary Manoj Saikia said.
