Paban Manta new CEM of Tiwa council

By Correspondent

MORIGAON, July 9 - Paban Manta was elected as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC) in the general meeting of the TAC held on its office premises here on Friday.

It may be mentioned here that the CEM post of the TAC was lying vacant after the then CEM Rama Kanta Deori was elected as the MLA from Morigaon constituency during the recent Assembly elections in the State. In the 30-member TAC, the present strength of members is as follows: Congress - 14, Tiwa Jatiya Oikya Mancha - 10, BJP - 3 and AGP - 2.

Interestingly, Paban Manta had joined the BJP on Thursday in the presence of Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain after leaving the Tiwa Jatiya Oikya Mancha. But, the BJPs alliance partner in the recent State Assembly polls, Tiwa Jatiya Oikya Mancha did not support the candidature of Paban Manta as the CEM.

As such in Fridays meeting, two members of the Mancha were absent, while eight others staged a walkout. The newly-inducted BJP member, Paban Manta got the support of 19 members in the election process. Of these 19 members, 14 are from Congress, two from BJP, one from AGP and two from Tiwa Jatiya Oikya Mancha.

Meanwhile, the unholy mixture of the BJP, Congress, AGP and Tiwa Jatiya Oikya Mancha to elect the Tiwa Councils CEM has added to the confusion in the general public and political circles here with many raising questions about the ideology of members of different political parties.
