GUWAHATI, June 22 - Unseeded Paavani Pathak of Maharashtra and Gujarat boy Krish Patel will aim for double crown in the AITA Championship Tennis Tournament.
Two Assam players Udit Gogoi and Lenien Jamir made it to the finals of the boys� U-17 and girls� U-18 categories respectively.
On a day of upsets at the organiser All Assam Tennis Association�s complex, Chachal here today, Paavani upset 7th seed Koyena Sircar of West Bengal 6-2, 6-4 in the girls� U-16 semifinal. In the other semifinal top seed Ananya Kothakota of Andhra Pradesh downed Assam girl Kristi Boro 6-1, 6-4.
Paavani stunned top seed A Vidula Reddy of Karnataka 7-6(6), 6-4 in the girls� U-18 semifinal.
Third seed Krish Patel of Gujarat caused a major upset in the boys� U-16 category defeating top seed Kabir Hans of Odisha 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. In the other semifinal of the same category Assam boy, second seed Udit Gogoi trounced 6th seed Aman K Patel of Gujarat 6-3, 6-2.
In the boys� U-18 category 6th seed Krish beat 5th seed Anurag Agarwal of West Bengal 6-4, 6-4.
Tournament Director and AATA secretary Ankush Dutta informed that the boys� and girls� U-16 singles finals will start at 8:30 AM tomorrow and it will be followed by the U-18 finals.
