Overall performance of Darrang improves

MANGALDAI, June 2 - Darrang district, which is considered educationally backward in comparison to other districts of the State, has shown a much improved overall performance in the HS final examination this time although only one student managed to secure a position in the toppers� list.

Bhaskar Singh, son of prominent businessman Gobinda Singh of LNB Road, Tengabari , Mangaldai and a student of Brilliant Academy, bagged the 8th rank in the Commerce stream. Bhaskar Singh, who expressed his desire to become a lecturer after joining a degree course with Major in Accountancy, scored 95 in English, 91 in Accountancy, 88 in Economics, 91 in Alternative English and 94 in Business Studies.

Moreover, much to the delight of the academic circle of the town, four students of the town, namely, Bhupali Sandhya of Ranjit Sarma Academy, Himashree Deka, Jaya Rani Nath and Nazreen Akhtar, have secured the highest 98 marks in Anthropology in the State.

Meanwhile, according to the Inspector of Schools of Darrang Sadulla Khan, in the Arts stream a total of 5552 students appeared in the examination in Darrang and 1035 have secured the first division, 2227 secured the second division and 1774 came out in the third division with the overall percentage of 90.71 compared to the overall percentage of the State with 79.92.

In Commerce stream, a total of 431 students appeared in the final examination, out of which 108 came out in the first division, 159 in the second division and 129 secured third division with the overall percentage of 91.88 which compares favourably with the the overall State percentage of 86.01.

In the Science stream, a total of 793 students in Darrang district appeared in the final examination and 558 came out in the first division, 184 in the second division and only 14 secured the third division with the overall percentage of 95.33. The overall percentage of the State is 90.96. On the basis of the overall percentage, the Darrang district has been placed in the third position, both in Arts and Science streams while it has found the fifth place in the Commerce stream among the list of successful districts of the State.

On the other hand, some of the leading government educational institutions of the district including Mangaldai Govt Higher Secondary and Kharupetia Higher Secondary also performed satisfactorily. In the Science stream of Mangaldai Govt HS, out of the total 59 students, 43 came out in first division including seven with star marks recording a pass percent of 96.6 . Similarly in the Arts stream, out of the 116 students appeared, 23 passed in the first division with a overall pass percentage of 93.9. The Kharupetia HS recorded a hundred per cent success in Science and Commerce streams while in the Arts streams, it has reportedly recorded 85 per cent.
