AGARTALA, Dec 11 Over 90 per cent voter turn-out was recorded in peaceful elections to Agartala Municipal Council (AMC) and 15 Nagar Panchayats on Saturday, official sources said.

There was no specific complaint of rigging or booth capturing during the polling process from the political parties. Voters were seen in queue in front of polling booths to cast their votes.

State Election Commissioner Y P Singh said that the percentage of votes cast would increase after final computation.

Except a few complaints of luring voters and unauthorised assembly in two booths in Agartala, the entire polling process was peaceful and fair, Singh said.

According to Singh, more than 90 per cent voting was reported from Kamalpur Nagar Panchayat of Dhalai district and five Nagar Panchayats of South Tripura district and voters turn-out at the last hour in AMC reached roughly more than 85 per cent.

The ruling CPI (M) and opposition Congress reacted differently to the elections. The polling has been peaceful and We congratulate the voters for keeping alive the tradition of our State which always records high polling, said Goutam Das, CPM State secretariat member said after completion of polling. The Left Front is as strong as ever, said the senior CPI (M) leader.

However, PCC president Surajit Dutta and leader of the opposition Ratan Lal Nath who remained seated in the Congress Bhawan all through the day to monitor the election process accused the ruling Left Front of distributing largescale doles over the two days preceding the polls and strong arm tactics applied by the CPM supporters. The counting will be held on December 14.
