JORHAT, Aug 20 - At a press conference held here today, Jorhat deputy commissioner Solanki Vishal Vasant said that over 90 per cent of the total households of the district submitted filled-up forms with required documents to the authority concerned till yesterday to include the residents names in the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Out of the total 23,3074 (as per 2011 census) households of Jorhat, residents of 21,1215 houses already deposited the NRC forms and documents to the officials of the NRC Seva Kendras (NSKs) and other officials concerned. Besides receiving the completed forms and documents in the NSKs, officials concerned collected majority of the forms personally from the houses of the applicants with the help of students� organisations, Asha karmis and the staff of the primary schools of the respective rural and urban localities of the district, said the deputy commissioner.
�We are confident that all the remaining forms and documents will be collected from the people of the district within August 31 this year. I appeal everyone to cooperate in the process,�said Solanki.
In the district, Majuli circle tops the list of submission with 92.87 per cent followed by Titabor circle with 92.85. In Jorhat East circle 91.66 per cent of the total households submitted the required forms and the documents while Jorhat West, Teok and Mariyani circles recorded 91.39, 88.67 and 84.44 per cent of receipts till yesterday.
As the Apex Court in a recent order relaxed some norms for submission of documents by the indigenous tribes, communities including the tea garden workers, the deputy commissioner appealed all the citizens to submit their respective forms along with whatever documents they possess to prove their nationality.
Following the Supreme Court�s guidelines, the district authority entrusted each of the NSKs to provide service to 3000 families, both in rural and urban areas of the district. Besides, mobile camps also have been organised in remote areas like Ahatguri in Majuli. Along with the deputy commissioner, several other officers also appealed the remaining residents to submit their forms and documents before August 31 so that no name of Indian citizens is left our from the process of inclusion in the updated NRC.
