By R Dutta Choudhury

GUWAHATI, Oct 20 - The desperation of Pakistan-based terrorists to infiltrate into India to create disturbance is evident from the fact that more than 80 terrorists managed to enter Jammu and Kashmir till the end of September this year as compared to only 33 last year.

The Multi Agency Centre (MAC) compiled the data of infiltration of terrorists from Pakistan on the basis of intelligence inputs, actions by the security forces, communication intercepts, etc.

Highly placed security sources told The Assam Tribune that as per the data compiled by the MAC, the terrorists made as many as 124 attempts to infiltrate into India from Pakistan this year and altogether 87 terrorists managed to sneak into the country. More than 30 terrorists managed to enter India during the three-month long unrest in the Kashmir Valley. Interestingly, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has not yet been able to find out how many youths from the valley joined the terrorist groups during the unrest and it is suspected that the terrorist groups managed to recruit a number of local youths by taking advantage of the long unrest.

The MAC records indicate that infiltration of terrorists from Pakistan into India, particularly to Jammu and Kashmir, is a regular feature and the figure of terrorists who manage to sneak in varies from time to time. Sources quoting MAC records said that last year, the terrorists had made as many as 121 attempts to infiltrate into India from their bases in Pakistan and only 33 managed to enter.

The MAC records said that in the year 2011, at least 247 attempts had been made by the terrorists to enter India and only 42 managed to sneak in, while in recent past, 2012 was the worst year as 121 terrorists managed to enter India in 264 attempts. In recent times, the highest number of 277 attempts had been made by terrorists to enter India in 2013 and 97 of them managed to sneak in, while 65 terrorists had managed to enter in 222 attempts in 2014.
