Over 71 pc cast votes in Jorhat LACs

JORHAT, April 4 � The first phase of poll process in the six constituencies of Jorhat district including Majuli and Dergaon concluded peacefully today. In the morning long queues had been witnessed in all the six constituencies. Except in some polling stations at Mariani and Titabor almost all the stations finished the process ahead of the allotted time. In Mariani and Titabor several defective Electronic Voting Machines were replaced immediately to conduct the poll.

In all the six constituencies of Jorhat district the average polling percentage was more than 71 per cent.

In Titabor it was about 71 per cent, in Mariani it was about 71.34 per cent. About 68.4 per cent and about 70 per cent polling were recorded in the Teok and Jorhat respectively.

Our Correspondent from Kamalabari adds: The voters of the Majuli LAC exercised their franchise peacefully today in 154 polling stations of the constituency. The constituency registered about 72 per cent turn out of voters.

Our Correspondent from Sivasagar adds: Polling in the three LAC segments of Sivasagar sub-division � Amguri, Thowra and Sivasagar was by and large very peaceful and the polling percentage is about 75 per cent. The official declaration is however not available till the time of filling this report.

According to an estimate collected from the sector officers, polling percentage is highest in Amguri LAC (76 per cent) followed by Thowra LAC (72 per cent) and Sivasagar (71 per cent). In Bhechalimari LP School (PS-138) only 47 votes were polled.

Our Correspondent from Golaghat adds: Around 79 percent of the voters exercised their franchise in the polls to Golaghat constituency and the polling was peaceful.

Our Correspondent from Dergaon adds: Around 70 per cent polling was recorded in the Dergaon constituency. The polling passed off peacefully.

Our Correspondent from Kohora adds: Election in 93 Bokakhat LAC went off peacefully today in all the 166 polling stations. A good number of people were seen coming to their respective polling stations and participated in the election process today. Sources said the more than 60 percent polling has been reported in 93 Bokakhat LAC and it is likely to go up since some of the polling personnel have not reached to DEO office of Bokakhat till filling of this report.
