AGARTALA, May 12 - Over 70 per cent voting was reported during re-poll on Sunday in the Tripura West Pparliamentary constituency. The turnout could be increased a bit as Assistant Returning Officers are yet to send their final reports to the Returning Officer for West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency, said Chief Electoral Officer Sriram Tarinikanta here.
There were long queues of voters to cast their votes early in the morning. In the minority-dominated areas, Muslim voters maintaining month long Ramadan had come early for votes in the election to avoid midday heat and fatigue. No trouble has been reported so far from anywhere in the state barring a few sporadic incidents which were timely intervened by the security forces, he said.
Over 7,000 security personnel belonging to central paramilitary and Tripura State Rifles were deployed to ensure free and fair re-poll.
