Over 70 pc pass HSLC exam

GUWAHATI, May 17 � Ijaz Ahmed of Pathsala Sikshapith Adarsha High School, Barpeta, topped the list of successful candidates of the High School Leaving Certificate Examination, 2013, results of which were announced today by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA).

Ahmed, with an aggregate of 573 marks, secured letter marks in all the six subjects.

A record 70.71 per cent students passed the HSLC Examination this year witnessing a marginal increase from last year�s 69.63 per cent.

In the Assam High Madrassa Examination, results of which were also declared simultaneously, Farzin Sultana of Tinsukia High Madrassa (Nagaon) and Raisul Alam of Azad Memorial High Madrassa shared the top slot with 507 marks each. The overall pass percentage this year was 70.08.

Of the 9,699 candidates who appeared in the High Madrassa examination this year, 329 bagged first division, while second and third divisions were bagged by 1,814 and 4,654 candidates respectively.

Meanwhile, of the total 3,66,476 students who appeared in the HSLC examination this year, 2,59,149 emerged successful, which include 28,337 first divisions (11 per cent), 61,993 second divisions (24 per cent) and 1,68,819 third divisions (65 per cent).

While the pass percentage of girl students was 68.25 per cent, boys recorded a pass percentage of 73.31.

Meanwhile, the top 10 positions were shared by 30 students (including the tenth position holder from Assam Jatiya Bidyalaya) representing various schools of the State.

While the second position was shared by Gourik Bang of Little Flower High School (Dibrugarh), Manasjyoti Sarma of Ananda Vidya Niketan (Nalbari), Pingal Pratyush Nath of Sophy Mercy Memorial School (Sivasagar) and Saurav Paul of Don Bosco High School (Tezpur) with an aggregate of 569 marks each, Nayanjyoti Sarma of Sankardev Sishu Bidya Niketan (Nalbari) grabbed the third position with a score of 556.

Among the districts, Dhemaji � considered as one of the most backward places of Assam � recorded the highest pass percentage of 85.76 this year, over 10 per cent more than Kamrup (Guwahati), the hub of education, recorded.

Nalbari and Sivasagar recorded the second and third highest pass percentage in the State with 80.97 and 80.72 respectively.

Of the top 30 position holders, eight of them represented schools from Sonitpur and four from Sivasagar.

The results of the HSLC and the Assam Madrasasa examinations were announced by SEBA Chairman Santikam Hazarika at a press conference.
