Over 7 lakh first time voters in Assam

GUWAHATI, March 11 - There will be more than seven lakh first time voters who will be eligible to exercise their franchise in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for 14 seats in the State.

Out of total 2,17,60,604 voters in the State, 7,06,489 are in the 18-19 years age category, making them first time voters, Assam Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mukesh Sahu said here today.

The voters� number is as per summary revision as on January 1, 2019. Enrolment of voters is going on, so the final voter strength could be different, he added.

He also said that there could be some voters in the other age brackets who have enrolled themselves for the first time, thus also making them first time voters.

The highest number of voters are in the 20-29 years category, with 57,08,688 voters coming in this age bracket. The 80-plus age bracket category of voters are the lowest at 2,60,849.

Of the total 28,143 polling stations in the State, 3,663 have been so far identified as hypersensitive and another 1,913 as critical.
