Over 51,000 students appear in Meghalaya SSLC exams

SHILLONG, March 5 - The Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations began in the State today with a total of 51,321 students sitting for the examinations across 140 centres.

The examinations are being conducted by the Meghalaya Board of School Education, which has faced flak over the years for question paper leaks.

MBoSE authorities have taken strict measures this year to avoid recurrence of such incidents of question paper leaks. �We are taking all necessary measures to ensure that question papers are not leaked,� an official said.

Question papers have been leaked at different regions over the years and there were also reports that some schools got the question papers ahead of the examinations.

This year there are 444 affiliated schools in the Shillong region and 172 in the Tura region. The number of unaffiliated schools in the Shillong region is 748 and 344 in the Tura region.

Similarly, there are 80 examination centres in the Shillong region and 60 in the Tura region. As for the students, there are 14,956 male students sitting for the examinations, whereas there are 18,645 female students.

On the other hand, there are 4,993 non-regular male students and 5,119 non-regular female students.

Moreover, there are 1,105 male private students and 1,013 female private students. As many as 2,451 male and 3,036 female students are also sitting for their compartmental examinations.
