AIZAWL, March 18 - As many as 38,039 people have been screened for COVID-19 in 15 screening centres in Mizoram so far, Principal Director of Health Dr F Lallianhlira said today.

Till date, seven blood samples have been sent to a designated viral research and diagnostic laboratory in Guwahati. Of these samples, six tested negative and one result is awaited, he said while briefing media persons along with Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana on the States preparedness against COVID-19.

He said the highest number of persons was screened at the Lengpui Airport, which stands at 17,421. Altogether 1,110 people have been screened at the check post at Zokhawthar along the Myanmar border.

The official also voiced concern over Myanmars response to the global outbreak of novel coronavirus as experts cast doubt over the countrys claim of zero case. Mizoram shares a 404-km porous border with Myanmar.

There had been unconfirmed reports that people from Myanmar were still entering Mizoram through the unguarded border, but officials dismissed the reports stating that the only entry point at Zokhawthar was being monitored round the clock by the police and BSF personnel along with the local people.

So far, 153 people were put under home quarantine and of them, eight have completed the observation period.

Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana said the Mizoram Government is doing everything it can to prevent outbreak of the disease in the State.
