Over 3,600 affected families provided houses

GUWAHATI, March 10 � Over 3,600 families of Kokrajhar district who lost their homes and hearths during the 2012 ethnic violence have been provided with houses under the Indira Awaas Yojana, the State government said today.

In a written reply to the Legislative Assembly, Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management Dr Bhumidhar Barman said that as per information received from the DC of the district, except for 1,873 families who were living in land belonging to others, all other affected families have been provided rehabilitation assistance. �The government is mulling providing rehabilitation for these 1,873 families as well,� he said. He said that Rs 100 crore was sanctioned by the Prime Minister under the Indira Awaas Yojana for people affected during the 2012 violence. The Panchayat and Rural Development department had selected 7,586 families as beneficiaries under the scheme and of them a total of 3,606 families have been provided with houses under the Indira Awaas Yojana.
