GUWAHATI, Nov 2 � More than 35 chain snatchers and vehicle lifters were arrested by the City Police in the last seven days from different parts of the city.
Police has intensified operation against chain snatchers and vehicle lifters who have been a major source of headache for both the policemen and the common man.
As part of its continued operation, police last night arrested eight car lifters under the jurisdiction of Basistha, Hatigaon, Paltan Bazar and Dispur police stations. Police also recovered a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number WB 77 9851, which was stolen from Siliguri.
Incidents of vehicle lifting, especially chain snatching has shot up noticeably in the city and in one of the recent incidents, Brajen Rajbongshi, an auto-rickshaw driver was stabbed to death by chain snatchers in Chatribari area.
