Over 3,000 take part in IITG half marathon

GUWAHATI, Aug 25 - Techniche, the annual techno-management festival of IIT Guwahati, organised the 11th edition of the Guwahati Half Marathon on Sunday, with an aim to create awareness on the importance of clean and safe drinking water.

The run was organised to promote better social interaction among the residents of Guwahati and its nearby areas. One of the largest events of its kind to be organised by a student body, the marathon has evolved over the years since its inception in 2009 to become the largest half marathon in the North East.

This year, the marathon witnessed the participation of over 3,000 people from different walks of life, to come and spread their sense of concern for a better society.

The Guwahati Half Marathon�19 with its theme �Run for Clean and Safe Drinking Water� appealed to people to be a part of the change for the prosperity of society. It appealed to people to become more responsible towards issues like poverty, illiteracy, hunger, lack of development, inflation among others.

Mr World 2018 Golap Rabha and Indian hockey player Chinglensana Singh flagged off the marathon. The event started with the professional marathon of 21 km in the morning from the Bhogeswari Phukanani Indoor Stadium, GNRC Road, Dispur, and was followed by the 6 km run for the general public, with more than 3,000 participants.
