Over 2,000 declared foreigners untraced

DHUBRI, May 13 - Dhubri district, which frequently grabs the headlines for infiltration, has 2,803 declared foreigners, out of whom the status of 2,123 is either untraced or absconding, as per official records.

The remaining 680 have been traced out by police but remain on bail issued by various courts. It may be mentioned here that since April 30 last, 7 foreigners who were declared �Not an Indian Citizen� by the Foreigners Tribunals of Dhubri district, were detained by police.

It may be informed here that out of these untraced and absconding-declared foreigners, Subhodh Sutrodhar (55) of Dakhin Tukrechara Pt-IV under Gokganj PS; Biswanath Maloo (60) from Baluchar Dhubri Town; Ajiron Bibi (50) from Majpara and Promila Biswas (60) from Bilasipara town under Bilasipara Police Station; Samti Basfore (50) from Ramraikuti under Agomoni Police Station; Sanibala Rai (49) from Bagdogra area under Tamarhat Police Station and Doijan Bibi (40) from Madhusoulmari under Gauripur Police Station were traced by police and sent to detention camps at Kokrajhar and Goalpara.

Further, some of the untraced-declared foreigners may have by this time passed away in India, the police speculated.

Talking to this Correspondent, Dhubri DSP (Border) Haren Chandra Das said that absconding cases have been registered against those who eloped and could not be traced, and �if required, the police as per the provisions of law will attach the properties concerned.�

Das further informed that, �most of the declared-foreigners cases are ex-parte order by the tribunals, who were served notice on the basis of 97-98 voters� list survey of D-voters by Election Department officials.� He also added that police is on the lookout for all the absconding-declared foreigners and is doing everything to detain them.

Meanwhile, police detained a 50-year-old Bangladeshi national named Abdul Gani from village Tetulai under Kendua Police Station of Netrokuna district of Bangladesh, who illegally entered India from Chapar area. Police informed that investigation into the case was on.
