JORHAT, June 29 - Floods in Jorhat district have affected 18,466 persons in 35 villages spread over three revenue circles of the district and damaged over 87 hectares of crop land in the past two days.
According to a District Disaster Management Authority official, in Teok Revenue circle 11 villages have been submerged, in Jorhat East Revenue Circle 20 and in Jorhat West four villages have come under water.
The Brahmaputra was reported to be flowing above the danger level at noon today, while two other rivers � Jhanji at AT Road Crossing and Bhogdoi at AT Road Crossing � were reported to be flowing below the danger level at 6 am today, the official stated.
Jhanji and Bhogdoi were flowing above the danger level at noon today in the district but the trend was reported to be falling in two rivers while Bhogdoi it was steady, the DDMA official informed.
The official said that 11 relief distribution centres were opened in Teok, Jorhat East and Jorhat West Revenue Circles and relief materials like rice, dal, salt and mustard oil have been distributed among flood-hit people.
There were no reports of animals being washed away but more than 20200 big and 1900 small domestic animals respectively and 5200 poultry have been affected in Jorhat East Revenue Circle, the official informed.
No person has been evacuated and no relief centres have been set up in any of the revenue circles so far, the official said.
